Distinguished Toastmasters July 07

A Double DTM for Glenis Nicholas

Glenis Nicholas DTM

Glenis Nicholas DTM has joined the ranks of Double DTMs. Her second DTM was awarded on July 3.
Glenis joined Toastmasters in 1995 when Victoria Quay chartered in November. Since that time she has held most Club roles with distinction, including Vice President Education in 1998/99 and President in 1999/2000.

Her first DTM came in August, 1999 following a successful term as President’s Distinguished Area Governor for W21 in 1998/99 and her role as a Founder of Western Founders in April 1999. She has held many Officer roles in that Club as well.

Last year she was Distinguished Area Governor for P10 in Perth Division and Mentor for the new Club, Corporate Express in Western Division. Along with these important qualifications for the DTM award, there were numerous speaking awards. Belonging to multiple clubs gives many opportunities to speak, and besides the Advanced awards Glenis completes a CTM or CC as it now is every year.

And a third DTM? “I don’t think so,” she said, when the question was popped. “But you never know.”

Michael Malone DTM

Michael Malone DTM

Michael Malone DTM seems very relaxed and easy going when you meet him but he must be a very busy man. As CEO of iinet, Australia’s third largest ISP (that’s an Internet Service Provider) he is often out of home town Perth on business. And yet he is one of WA’s most energetically productive Toastmasters, as his award of DTM on July 18 indicates.

Michael’s home club is Durack, which meets at 7am every Thursday morning in central Perth. He doesn’t just attend – he is Vice President Education and webmaster for Durack’s website (check it out at durack.iinet.net.au). With his programming and enthusiastic support for the Distinguished Club Program, Durack has been President’s Distinguished Club for the past two years.

But his Toastmaster work goes beyond Durack. In 2006/07 he was President’s Distinguished Area Governor for Area P30, based in Central Perth. As part of that he founded Young Guns with Mike Helm and revived a failed club, Central Communicators, with Mike Helm and David Nicholas. If that wasn’t enough, he was a successful Club Coach with Glen Lewis, bringing Western Founders up to President’s Distinguished Club.

And a second DTM? He is working on it right now.
