This is a great initiative toward a membership drive. I will be very interested to see the level of increased membership growth as a result of this initiative. Using the attendance at University open days and community markets is another way of advertising the great service we have and generating interest.

Western Australia needs a strategic plan toward effective growth for both club, and membership numbers in current clubs. This initiative offers another level to the scope of that plan

I believe the strategy taken by Canningvale, Applecross, and Highgate to target the geographical area with mail drop advertising that generated sufficient interest to start a club is the level of intensity WA needs to adopt. Initiating membership in this forum is a cheaper albeit more labour intensive bottom up approach

Well done Robyn and all your supporters on the stalls.

Hi everyone.

Personally I have no issue with the concept both for fundraising and advertising purposes and have helped with sausage sizzles both at Bunnings near Northland and outside Mitre 10 in Heidelberg to raise funds for Special Olympics Victoria.

However, whilst I think it is a great idea, we do have to be careful that any fundraising we engage in in the name of Toastmasters is in accordance with Toastmasters International policies. The policy relating to fundraising is detailed in the District Leadership Handbook, and is also included on the TI website at the following link: http://www.toastmasters.org/Members/OfficerResources/PoliciesandProcedures/Fundraising.aspx

Sorry, but I don’t think that a sausage sizzle would fit TI’s acceptable fundraising activities, as this activity would be equivalent to the “pancake breakfast” mentioned in activities that are not approved, as this could be classed as an activity outside the normal venue that raises the organization’s liability risk. I think you would also have to answer ‘No’ to the question “Is the product that you sell donated” if you are buying the sausages (even if you are improving upon the product by cooking them).

If you wish to continue with these fundraising activities, I would recommend that you ask them at TI HQ as their website indicates that if you have questions about fundraising activities, please contact World Headquarters. It might be worth asking them at TI HQ as was done with respect of the Australian TV Public Speaking Championship with the result that District 73 obtained approval for Toastmasters members to participate.

I have worked with Robyn recently at Murdoch Uni, Vic Park Markets and will be again later today at Curtin Uni.

We had a wonderful day at Murdoch and it revealed that there are pockets of untapped potential at Universities where we hve no presence.

The Vic Park Markets was an entirely different affair but was used as a tool to promote the new Vic Park Club (Demo meeting 8 March, contact me for details). This was what I consider a Community Event and called for a differennt approach.

During discussions with Robyn and Sandra Morton towards the end of the day we tossed around some of the ideas Robyn has discussed. What also became evident to me was the massive market in the Northern corridor waiting to be serviced. We need to develop a Marketing Strategy and I believe whilst the PRO Community Events Co-ordinator is a desirable role there should be a group or committee in order that we don't put too much work on one person.

I spoke about how we develop and nurture our leaders at the Governor's Club meeting. We need to support people in these roles not to put pressure on them.

Great initiative Robyn and I've been really pleased to take part.

Hi Shelley:
The 50 cent drinks were a special at Big W in Livingston Shopping Centre on the weekend. They are certainly cheaper than Woolies, but you may not get them as low as 50cents.

Cheers,

John

I would like to congratulate Robyn Lloyd for arranging this event. Through her efforts and the support of her team Robyn has gained an incredible amount of exposure for Toastmasters in WA. Well done.

Hi John

Thanks for the guidelines! Our community centre is looking to run a sausage sizzle in Hyde Park soon and this has helped enormously. May I ask where you got the 50c drinks, the cans on special at Woolies worked out to be 70c each ...?

Hi David,

Re COT Feb 2010

I looked under district resources and saw last years training sessions.

I've not seen any detail of the upcoming training sessions posted on this page. I have heard that details have been decided on locations and dates etc, and would appreciate them being posted in the appropriate spots.

Best regards,
